Four ships of the United States Navy (and one of the Confederate States Navy[?]) have been named USS Arkansas in honor of the 26th state.
The first USS Arkansas (steamer)[?], a wooden-hulled, barkentine[?]-rigged, screw steamer originally named Tonawanda that saw action in the American Civil War. The second USS Arkansas (BM-7)[?], the lead ship of her class[?] of single-turreted monitor, was one of the last American monitors. The third USS Arkansas (BB-33), a Wyoming-class battleship[?], saw action in the Mexican-American War and in World War I.
