Nullarbor Plain

The Nullarbor Plain is the vast expanse of flat, almost treeless, arid or semi-arid country immediately north of the Great Australian Bight, stretching about 2000 km from east to west between Adelaide and Perth. The name is derived from the Latin for "no trees". The area of the nullarbora is primarily small scrubs.

On some occasions has flooded during cylcones cutting off the east and west areas of Australia. The southern ocean, in areas, blows through subterranean caves resulting in blow holes up to several hundred metres from the coast. The Nullarbor Plain also holds the record for the longest straight piece of tarred road surface in Australia (146.6 km) and the longest straight piece of railway line in the world (478 km).
