Lynx is the name for several wild cats of the genus Felis, subgenus Lynx. They have a short tail, and usually a tuft of hair on the tip of the ears. They are somewhat larger than most domestic cats. The lynx is closely related to the bobcat.

Among the well-known species are:

  • European lynx (Felis borealis)
  • Canada lynx or loup-cervier (F. Canadensis)
  • bay lynx of America (F. rufa), and its western spotted variety (var. maculata)
  • pardine lynx (F. pardina) of Southern Europe.
