Luke the Evangelist

Luke the Evangelist is traditionally believed to be the author of both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, the third and fifth books of the New Testament.

He was a physician. He is believed to have died in Thebes at the age of 84. According to Christian tradition, he was the first iconographer, painting pictures of the Virgin Mary and of saints Peter and Paul. Also according to tradition, he was one of the seventy apostles sent out by Jesus Christ during his earthly ministry, and was also one of the two people that met Jesus Christ on the road to Emmaus shortly after Jesus' resurrection.
