La Fontaine |

Jean de La Fontaine (1621 - 1695) was a French poet. His Fables are masterworks of French literature. His fables of animals and everyday life took their inspiration from Aesop and Horace. In 1683 he became a member of the Académie Française. He was born in Château-Thierry and died in Paris. He is interred in the Père Lachaise cemetery.
