John Manley (politician)

John Manley, Canadian laywer and politician, was born on January 5, 1950 in Ottawa. He is a graduate of the University of Ottawa Law School and has also studied at Carleton University and the University of Lausanne.

He has been the Member of Parliment for Ottawa South since 1988 and a Cabinet Minister since 1993, when the Liberal Party came to power under Jean Chrétien. From 1993 to 2000 he served as Minister of Industry[?], and from 2000 to 2002 as Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 2002 he was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

He is known as a republican and an advocate of the abolition of the Canadian monarchy.
