J. M. Barrie

Sir James Matthew Barrie (May 9, 1860 - June 19, 1937), better known as J. M. Barrie, was a Scottish novelist and dramatist. He was born in Kirriemuir[?], Angus and was educated at Dumfries Academy and Edinburgh University.

He became a journalist at Nottingham, then London, and became a novelist. The first two novels were set in Kirriemuir, disguised as "Thrums" (his father was a weaver[?]). He then wrote for the theatre, including Quality Street, What Every Woman Knows and The Admirable Crichton. But he will be remembered mainly for Peter Pan.

He died in 1937 and was interred at Kirriemuir, next to his parents, sister and brother David.
