A deer (unchanged in plural) is a ruminant mammal belonging to one of several genera in the traditional order Artiodactyla.
Larger deer running Deer are associated with the following genera: From the Family Tragulidae[?]
The common name deer is loosely defined so that animals in other genera of these two families could be considered to be deer even if the word doesn't appear in their common name. eg. elk, moose, chevrotain[?]. The males, and in some species the females, have solid antlers, often much branched, which are shed annually. Their flesh, for which they are hunted and farmed, is called venison[?]. |
