A bull is the male of cattle and a few other animal species, such as elephants and sea lions. The term is used primarily to refer to animals that humans find daunting, or that have polygynous or harem[?] mating[?] systems.
Among domestic cattle, a bull is specifically a fertile male; castrated males are called steers and are raised for meat or as beasts of burden when they are called oxen. The constellation Taurus represents a bull. See bullfighting. See also: Papal bull |
